Grilled Pizza Recipe and Instructions

Love to BBQ but looking for something fun and new to do? How about BBQ Pizza?! :)


This was so fun to do, and I can hardly wait to have a backyard party and grill some more pizzas with friends sometime. Fun and tasted great (which should come as no surprise seeings how its always fun and delicious to grill).

I researched out a bunch of recipes and tips before trying it out and have now narrowed down the essentials here for you. :)

Mmmm--just look at all that melty cheese. :) This particular pizza had bruschetta topping, grilled orange peppers, grilled onions, zucchini, fresh tomatoes, fresh basil, and cubes of mozzarella cheese.

Dough (or use any prepared pizza dough)
1 1/4 c. warm water
2 packages dry yeast
1 Tbsp. honey
3 Tbsp. good olive oil
4 c. all-purpose flour, plus extra for kneading
2 tsp. salt

Possible toppings
red onion, thinly sliced
mozzarella, grated or cubed
Parmesan cheese
red or yellow bell pepper, cored, seeded, and sliced
regular or plum tomatoes, sliced
fresh basil leaves, cleaned and dried
garlic cloves, roasted
olives
Crushed red pepper flakes
Bruschetta topping
Pizza sauce (in moderation)
Meat such as pepperoni, prosciutto, sausages, cooked and sliced

Directions
1. Add the flour, yeast, salt and olive oil, mix well with a wire whisk. Make a well in the middle and pour in the water. Knead for 5 minutes. You want the dough to be slightly sticky. Add a little olive oil to a bowl and place dough inside. Cover with plastic wrap and allow to rest for 1 hour or till double in bulk.
2. Sprinkle a little flour on a flat surface and place the dough on the flour. Can refrigerate for up to 4 hours at this point (if the dough has been chilled, take it out and allow it to come to room temperature, about 30 minutes, before proceeding).
3. Meanwhile, prepare toppings.
4. Divide the dough into 6 portions. Working one at a time, stretch each portion out to the desired thickness. Place onto a piece of parchment or wax paper or on a baking sheet sprinkled with cornmeal and brush the dough with olive oil.
5. Place pizza oil side down onto a very hot, very clean grill and allow to sit till the dough starts to bubble. Use tongs and peek under the dough to make sure you don't burn the bottom.
6. Brush the top of the pizza with more olive oil and flip with your tongs. Top the pizzas with any toppings you wish, grill on medium heat, with the lid down, for about 5 minutes. Cut and serve.

Tips:
1. Preheat your grill.
2. A clean grate is essential for success.
3. Pizza peels are also the best way to remove the pizza from the grill, but if the pizzas are kept fairly small then a few spatulas will also work.
4. Go easy on the cheese or you’ll make a disaster. I have found that cubes of cheese work better than shredded cheese.

Chocolate Sour Cream Cake


If you're dying for a rich, moist, chocolate-y dessert... this is for you.

I made this cake for my birthday/mothers day this year, and it was devine!
(you'll notice I didn't get a picture of this cake BEFORE we all had a slice)

And what is almost as amazing as eating it, is how simple it was to make it!
I even went for the 'rustic' (aka I have no time to decorate this thing) look and didn't frost the sides- which ended up to be a good thing because it didn't need all that extra frosting.

Breakfast Banana Split

This is one of my favorite breakfasts to do--fun, beautiful and healthy. And cheerful. You just can't eat this and NOT be happy.


The cottage cheese in it adds a lot of protein, so it's a great way to start your day--lots of protein and fruit, what could be better?! Now, I'm not the biggest cottage cheese fan (and I really don't know anyone who is) BUT this is great--you mix the cottage cheese with a little honey or maple syrup and suddenly it tastes a lot more like yogurt. :)

You should really give it a try. It is likely to become a favorite for you and your family. :)


Ingredients
1 banana
½ c. cottage cheese
¼ c. grapes, halved or 1 kiwi, diced
1 Tbsp. wheat germ (opt.)
1 Tbsp. pure maple syrup, agave nectar or honey
½ c. strawberries, sliced
1-3 Tbsp. plain yogurt mixed with 1 tsp. cinnamon
1 Tbsp. chopped nuts

Directions
1. Cut banana lengthwise and place in a shallow bowl.
2. Combine cottage cheese with grapes/kiwi wheat germ and maple syrup. Form into a “scoop” and set in the middle of the banana.
3. Top with strawberries and yogurt. Sprinkle with nuts.

Wyoming Wildflowers

Fare thee well, Wyoming!

My family and I just moved from the state of Wyoming, and on our last weekend there we went on a great hike at the Cottonwood Creek Dinosaur Trail. We got to find all sorts of fossils, but today I want to share with you some of the natural beauty that can be found growing in high mountain deserts.

We'll see what adventures and beauty awaits us in our new home....

Guest Post: Aprons and Apples

Today, we're excited to introduce you to a new friend....

Hi. I am so excited to be here!  What an honor.  YIPPEE!! I love Everyday Art's philosophy that every day can be colored with creativity.  And who doesn't love a free weekly meal plan?  Thank you girls!
Let me just start by introducing myself: My name is Kristy Neeley and I have a crafty, thrifty, creative, healthy, DIY blog at http://www.apronsandapples.blogspot.com/. It is a fun place for me to have a creative outlet, post tutorials,  DIY projects, healthy recipes, tips for a healthier life, and occasionally share my thoughts if I feel inspired.  I  have a masters degree in the "Science of Natural Health" and that fuels my interest in healthy living. 

First and foremost however, I am a wife to the love of my life who I have been married to for 12 1/2 years (!!!) and a stay at home homeschooling mom to 4 little ones ages 1, 2, 4, and 6.  They keep me on my toes! I am a huge fan of adoption, family fun and mission related travel!  Everything we do, we do on a dime!  I know exactly what it is like to need a small budget to stretch a long way and then stretch a little more.  We used to have 2 kids and a great paying job, in a nice house with a small mortgage (we have always believed in not becoming house poor with  a huge mortgage).

Since then we spent about a year overseas doing mission work on our own dime on the island of Efate in Vanuatu in the South Pacific, adopted Bella from birth while there.

Healthy Banana "Ice Cream"



Hmmm, what to call this post? "one- or two-ingredient ice cream"? "chocolate banana ice cream"? "summer dessert in a flash"? "easy, healthy, non-dairy, delicious chocolate-banana ice cream"? That's a bit of a mouthful.... Of course, someone I know likes it being a mouth full! :)


I've mentioned before that this little cutie of mine currently can't have dairy. I think she'll grow out of it, but I've wondered at times if the poor thing would have to go her whole life without ice cream. (Not likely, but sometimes my imagination runs away with itself).

Well this "ice cream" was made with two ingredients: frozen bananas and cocoa powder. That's it. And it's oh-so-good. The panel votes "finger-licking good". :) I'd like to give someone some credit for the recipe, because this wasn't my idea, but I've seen it all over blogland recently--who knows where it was first or last?

It tastes really good and the fact that it's just made out of bananas is impressive. Your kids will love you, heck you could give it to them for breakfast. How would you rate?!

Want to make some? Here's what you do.

First, slice up some ripe bananas (no green left but not all mushy, ready-for-banana-bread style either). For the kids, I did a banana a piece.



Arrange on a plate and pop them into your freezer for about an hour or so.


When they are frozen and you are ready to go, put them into a blender or food processor and blend away! I added some cocoa powder to mine and it was great. 


Mmmm, look at that smooth creamyness.  


Spoon it into some bowls.


Admire the fact that it's healthy, good-tasting, and took barely any effor at all.


And snarf.

Italian Pasta Salad


Like Jaime, I tend to make a lot of salads for dinner in the summer.
This is one of my favorites because its one of those recipes where you can throw in whatever you have. (Usually leftover ingredients from previous meals if you're like me)
Here's what I usually do...

Pasta- this one has penne and rotini
Meat- grilled chicken and
pepperoni
Cheese- mozzarella (cubed) and
 parmesan (grated) 
Vegetables- baby spinach
grape tomatoes, halved or quartered
(sometimes I add broccoli)
Dressing- Italian Vinaigrette

Memo Board - Boy Style

Here is a super easy version of a memo board
And its a little more appropriate for a boy than most- aka no ribbons, lace, or pretty buttons.

Start with a piece of foam board cut to size.
Cut a piece of fabric about an inch bigger all the way around.
(you could also use butcher paper, burlap, whatever you like.)
Fold the fabric over the back of the board and staple in place.


Fold the corners over and staple them in place too.


Wrap twine all around the board, criss-crossing in different directions.


Staple the twine in place on the back a few times as you go.


Put your board in a frame (your could spray paint the frame if it doesn't match).
Fill it up with pictures, cards, or other 'important' things.
You can also use thumb tacks- since there's foam board behind. I just wasn't sure giving tacks to a 3 yr old boy was a good idea :)
