Monster Birthday Cake and Cupcakes

It's birthday time at our house!

My two-year-old became a three-year-old this past week. She's our little "pistol peet" and her two loves in life are princesses and monsters. Quite the range there. She spends most of her day dressed as a princess and playing princesses and waiting anxiously for Daddy to come home so she can play "the monster game," which is essentially wrestling only Daddy is a monster. Who, interestingly enough eats chips and beans (her idea there). She also blames all mishaps in the house on monsters--lost shoes, all messes, dropped forks, etc. etc.

Anyway, I thought a little girl monster birthday would be too cute, so that's what we did.
I turned a regular two-layer cake into a shaggy pink monster with 5 antennae-like eyeballs. :)

And then we also made these super cute monster cupcakes partially because I thought it'd be fun, partially to feed everyone that came, and partially to accommodate some of our guests' gluten-free diets. The main birthday cake was a Funfetti cake (which, frankly, I find gross, but I thought it was fitting with the brightly-colored monster theme and that the birthday girl would like it), while the cupcakes were gluten-free chocolate cake.

Ha! so cute. :) Those monster cupcakes crack me up every time I look at them. :)

Emily, because she's great, made me some awesome monster printables for the party--invites, banners, gift tags, etc. And because she's really awesome, she's made them available for you for free too. :) She even made a boy version. :)

This picture is one of my favorites--someone (birthday girl's 5-year-old sister) trying to get a snitch of monster cake frosting during my photo shoot. :)

Anyway, the monster theme was fun to do--I enjoyed making it pink and girly plus all the other bright colors on the cupcakes.
