Handmade Christmas Ornaments: Cabled-Sweater Bulbs

These cabled-knit bulbs are right up my alley on multiple levels--I love warm, cozy, rustic Christmas decorations and I love knitting. :) Perfect!

Also perfect because you don't have to be able to knit to make these--I used a thrift store sweater, so it is also a great way to re-purpose an old sweater.

To make them you'll need the following supplies:
        • a knit sweater
        • styrofoam balls (or bulbs you want to cover)
        • twine (or ribbon if you prefer that)
Then, just cut your sweater to about the right size to cover the ball/bulb. I used a hot glue gun to adhere it. Now, this part was a bit trickier than I thought. I never found a great secret to it, but trying to get the sweater to lay nicely on the ball and glue into place without bulges all over was a bit of a challenge for me--I just kept the scissors near by and snipped and glued as I went.

When I was satisfied with the ornament, I made a loop of twine and attached either end to the top of the sweater bulb and then glued a bow over the top of that.
