Fun Family Halloween Costume: Where's Waldo

Happy Halloween!

We had so much fun last year dressing up as the 101 Dalmations crew that for sure we were going to do a family costume again this year.

I thought Where's Waldo was brilliant. My kids were iffy on it until I agreed to let them go trick-or-treating in whatever they wanted. In the end though, they loved dressing up as Where's Waldo and got quite a kick out of it--they especially loved looking at themselves with the glasses on. I could hear them giggling an giggling upstairs while checking themselves out in the mirror. :)

And talk about easy costumes!!!

Here's what I did:
1. Hats. These hats are knit. I was planning on knitting them myself, but then my father-in-law got into those knitting looms last winter/early spring (before gardening time took him outdoors). He willingly agreed to make them for me and had them done within a week. :) yay!
2. Shirts. I looked around a lot for shirts but didn't really have success. I found costumes you could buy, but they already had hats, which I didn't need, and frankly cost more than I thought they were worth. So, I went on down to Walmart, bought plain which shirts for dirt cheap, a role of 2-inch wide masking tape and 2 containers of red spray paint. My husband helped me apply tape to all the shirts (took quite a while!) then I sprayed the fronts one night and let them dry. Then I sprayed the backs the other night. So, 3 nights--1 for taping, 1 for spraying the fronts, 1 for spraying the backs.
I also got some plain white knee-high socks for me and painted them.
3. Glasses. Went to the dollar store and bought some glasses and punched the lenses out.
4. Jeans. easy peasy.

 Fun Halloween for us!
I hope yours was good too.

  1. So Adorable. I think the glasses are the icing on the cake.

  2. What kind of spray paint did you use?

  3. just regular ol' spray paint. It was rather stiff on the shirts, but not bad at all.

It is always fun to hear from our readers. Thanks for stopping by!
